LUDWIG VINTAGE 1960's CLASSIC DRUM KIT
LUDWIG VINTAGE 1964 CLASSIC DRUM KIT:
Original and very rare genuine factory matched 1964 Vintage Ludwig 4 piece drum set, all with keystone badge-serial numbers and the Original Oyster Pearl finish.
The Snare drum, 14"x5" Chrome Supraphonic 400.
This hard to come by Original Oyster Pearl drum-set is in excellent condition with original fittings and the same beautiful sound, with some original & new Ludwig drum heads.
The Kit Consists of:-
Bass Drum: (S/N.4XXXX) 22" Oyster Pearl finish. Folding spurs & tom tom holder bracket, L-shaped cymbal holder-arm.
Original front head & Ludwig logo, new batter head.
Snare Drum: (S/N. 4XXXX) 14"x 5" Supraphonic 400, with P83 strainer, new Ludwig drum head. Very clean, small pin prick pitting,(natural for 44 years old), but no flaking.
Small Tom: (S/N. 4XXXX) 13"x 9" Oyster Pearl finish:
original Ludwig top drum head.
Floor Tom: (S/N. 4XXXX) 16"x16" Oyster Pearl finish,
with original Ludwig top drum head.
All drums and fittings are in excellent condition.
Hardwear:
Ludwig, Speed King Bass drum pedal, Hi-Hat stand, and Snare drum stand.
L-shaped cymbal holder on bass drum, Floor cymbal stand.
Plus: Optional: 4 piece drum cases can be purchased separatley.
A fine piece of drumming history!
The kit has been played on not only by myself but various 1960/70's UK drummers from, The Searchers, The Honeycombs, Freddie and The Dreamers, The Mindbenders, The Four Pennies, Cliff Bennet and The Rebel Rousers, George Fame and The Blue Flames, Hermans Hermits, Martha Reeves and the Vandellas, Vanity Fair, Eddison Lighthouse, & Tony Sheridan in Hamburg.
As well as been on just about every stage at various venues in the UK, It has been on the same stage as The original Beatles, at the Star Club & Top Ten Club in Hamburg, Germany, in the 1960's.
A New World Record!
In 1969, I set a New World Record for the Worlds longest None-stop Drum Solo on this very drum kit of; 109hours 6mins.39secs: with NO BREAKS or SLEEP for 5 DAYS!!
They dont make them like this anymore!
I bought the kit new, 44 years ago when it was one of the most expensive drum kits around in the UK at that time, and since then I have looked after and cared for it all that time. So you can understand why I am very reluctant to part with them. They still look and sound as good now, as they did when I first bought them. So I would like them to go to someone who will give them respect and plenty of tlc. So you can now see why this drum-kit is so unique, and they have a lot of history attached to them.
Issues:
There are a few very very small holes on the shell of the Bass drum, Small & Floor Toms, which are barely noticeable, where the bulb holders and micro-switches were attached, as I had lights inside the drums in the 1970's, but they do not deter the appearance or the sound.
One of the bass drum hoops blue oyster pearl strip has been recovered.
The Snare Drum, is very clean, some small pin prick pitting, but no flaking.

All in all, this Ludwig drum kit's superb quality has certainly stood the test of time, all of 44 years and in that time its certainly took a battering and it still looks and sounds as good today as it did when when I first bought it.
These Vintage Ludwig drums are becoming very rare and sought after. Not just an amazing kit to play, but they are now becoming a viable investment, for enthusiasts and collectors.
All serial numbers begin with 4, the rest of the numbers have been replaced with X for security reasons.
